08/18/2013 Wichita Mountains Wildlife Reserve

I haven’t had much time to take any wildlife photos lately, but did manage to spend an afternoon at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Reserve a few weeks ago.  The prairie dog population has definitely suffered over the last few years and it is obvious that there population has diminished greatly.  The bison were wandering around throughout the park and did provide some photo opertunities.  That and a few veiws from the top of Mount Scott pretty much covered the day’s shoot.  Here is a link to some of the images.  link

03/2012 Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (and surrounding area)

I had an opportunity to spend a few days along the Texas coast near the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge area a few weeks ago.  The area was still suffering from the heat and drought of the summer.  Lakes were almost dry and the location and quantity of wildlife was definitely affected.   Nonetheless, it is always enjoyable to get out into the fresh air and take some photos.   Here are some taken during the visit.  link

Birding out of Rockport aboard the Skimmer

I had an opportunity to go on a birding tour aboard the Skimmer out of Rockport, TX last week. It consisted of a 3.5 hour ride over to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. There we saw, among other things, Whooping Cranes, Roseate Spoonbills, and Great Blue Herons. The lighting was a bit challenging as a storm was brewing, but I did manage to come away with a few interesting images. These can be found at
